Delhi Upgraded to business class from Bangkok to Delhi, which was a rare and wonderful treat, but finding that my bag had gone missing on the exchange took a bit of the thrill off it. There seems to be a lot of a bit of this and a bit of that going on these days. Waiting [...] Chiang Mai Walking early in the morning along the moats surrounding the old city with the monks and hookers both sharing curb space in the city, it is somewhat overwhelming to think of piecing together all of this for others. The triteness of a new world with internet hookups, Starbucks, and the ubiquitous 7-11 stores [...] Chiang Mai One of the more interesting, and surprising, things we found ourselves watching with interest was the porous border crossing on the Moei River between Thailand and Burma. The bridge was lightly trafficked above us as we saw an occasional foreign couple or straggler walking over, but beneath the bridge in the fast moving [...] Mae Sot The morning had begun before dawn as I walked the downtown streets of Mae Sot in the company of hundreds of orange clad Buddhist monks of all ages as they padded silently in bare feet along the streets to find their sustenance from the alms of believers, some sitting ready to feed them [...] Mae Sot We stacked our laundry, weighed it by the kilos, and stripped down what we were taking to the essentials, leaving laptops and luggage, to head to the border over the mountains 5 hours away at Mae Sot abutting Burma. We shuffled our few things into rooms there that were straightforward and simple (5 [...] Chiang Mai The Organizers’ Forum delegation had travelled from Bangkok to Chaing Mai and almost immediately sat down with organizers from three different groups focused on support and assistance to Burmese refugees and displaced citizens. The organizers had been involved in the work from several to twenty years. We had the opportunity to meet for several hours with five union organizers working to organize industrial plants along the eastern shore of Thailand.
