Pearl River Working with a newly emerging coalition of membership-based groups, Arkansas Grassroots United, that was organized by the Anthropocene Alliance and ACORN, their first public event, coinciding with the global Beat the Heat Day on July 23rd , is a sign-on letter to federal political officials and the president. Maybe that’s something you would like to do individually and with your own local organizations as well?
If so, here’s how the template from Arkansas reads. Your own logo, community, and state can be substituted where it now reads Arkansas or can be downloaded at www.chieforganizer.org so that you can cut and paste. It’s a low bar to fly on email to lick a stamp on an envelope and send it along. Why not, join in, and make a difference? The president is already retreating on his earlier claim to eliminate FEMA, now we need guarantees.
July x, 2025
To Members of Arkansas [or your] Congressional Delegation:
We, the undersigned members and allies of Arkansas Grassroots United [or your organization], stand in strong opposition to President Donald Trump’s dangerous suggestion to eliminate the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in November. We understand, in the wake of the Texas flooding tragedy, that the Department of Homeland Security has now said this is “off the table.” Such a reckless idea threatens the lives, homes, and safety of millions of Americans—especially Arkansans [or your state]—who depend on FEMA for critical disaster relief, flood protection, and emergency response services. We are seeking your assistance in guaranteeing a robust and fully operational and funded FEMA to protect our communities and families.
Arkansas [or your state] is no stranger to climate-related disasters. From the deadly tornadoes that tore through Central Arkansas in March 2023 to historic floods in the Arkansas River Valley and the ongoing risks from wildfires and severe storms, our state [your state or story] is increasingly vulnerable. FEMA has been an essential partner during these moments of crisis—providing temporary shelter, emergency aid, long-term recovery funding, and support to local and state governments in times of greatest need.
Eliminating FEMA would be catastrophic for Arkansas [your state] families. It would:
- Leave local communities without support to recover after disasters
- Undermine public confidence and delay urgent emergency responses
- Jeopardize access to the National Flood Insurance Program, which over 10,000 Arkansas households (424 communities across the state participate in FEMA’s National Flood Program) rely on to rebuild [substitute your state or just leave it]
- Strip rural counties—many with limited local budgets—of the crisis coordination and federal resources FEMA provides
Instead of dismantling FEMA, we need to strengthen it with more staff, more funding, and a commitment to equity and access for every American, regardless of zip code.
We call on Arkansas’s [your state] Congressional delegation to publicly reject any proposals to eliminate FEMA, and instead stand with the us and our communities who you were elected to serve in guaranteeing a fully functional and operational FEMA now and for the future.
Protecting lives should never be political.
Signed,
Arkansas Grassroots United [by you and your organization]
What the heck, join Arkansas Grassroots United and ACORN, where you are and make a change happen.
